IT Technical Writer

We are currently seeking an experienced IT Technical Writer to join our IT department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in creating high-quality technical documentation for a variety of IT/IS systems and have a keen understanding of the modern IT landscape.

Location: This position will be based out of our Amherst, NY office, but consideration will be made for a full time remote employee.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation for a wide range of IS/IT systems, including user manuals, installation guides, release notes, technical articles, and online help content
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) across various IT disciplines to gather information and ensure technical accuracy
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language tailored to diverse audiences
  • Maintain consistency in style, tone, and terminology across all documentation
  • Update existing documentation to reflect advancements in technology and changes in systems and processes
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to industry standards, best practices, and organizational guidelines
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines, and maintaining high quality standards
  • Review and provide feedback on documentation created by other team members
  • Continuously improve documentation processes and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Reports to: IT Director

Controls over position:

Work will be assigned as directed and overseen by the IT Director.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, or related field
  • A minimum of 2-years of experience in IT technical writing, with a focus on IT/IS systems
  • Proficient in using documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Adobe FrameMaker/InDesign
  • Familiarity with markup languages such as HTML, XML, and Markdown
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex technical concepts
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Familiarity with the network and desktop operating systems.
